The Canyons

The Canyons is 28 miles east of Salt Lake City and just 40 minutes transfer from the airport. The opening of Iron Mountain in the 2010/11 season takes the ski area to 4,000 acres, cementing its position as the largest area in Utah and one of the five biggest in the U.S. Over the past ten years or so the resort has undergone tremendous development, with an expanding village at the base of the slopes and enhancements to the lift system, as well as to the area itself. There is plenty of terrain for all ability levels. Beginners have a dedicated nursery area at mid-mountain, with the ski school and childcare both having a good reputation. Intermediates have lots of choice, with dozens of blue and single black trails, many weaving down tree-lined slopes. Experts will really enjoy the steep stuff, especially from Ninety-Nine 90, and there are a number of glades. There is also some hiking accessed terrain, including the open chutes of Murdock Bowl. Boarders have masses to play on, with two terrain parks along with six natural half-pipes. To give even more variety, the slopes of Park City and Deer Valley are easily accessible by car or local buses.

The resort village has a number of lodgings including luxury hotels and well-appointed condo-style accommodation. There are a few laid-back après-ski options at The Canyons, but the lively Main Street of Park City, with its bars and restaurants, is just a short bus ride away.
