Northstar-at-Tahoe
Overview
Northstar-at-Tahoe, just 196 miles from San Francisco, is one of 15 ski resorts in California. It lies six miles from the north shore of Lake Tahoe and is close to the better-known resort of Squaw Valley.
Northstar is almost entirely a beginner and intermediate mountain and, although black runs are marked on the piste map, none of the terrain is seriously steep. The area is sheltered, with plenty of wooded runs making it a good option even on bad weather days. Twelve lifts serve 63 trails, of which 50% are covered by snow-making facilities. For cross-country enthusiasts, there are 65km of trails. The main lodge at the foot of the mountain serves as a restaurant, bar, shopping, rental and accommodation area and is an excellent place to stay if convenience is a priority.
