Overview
This family-run pick is in a great spot for your stay in Risoul. You’re pretty much in the heart of the action here – with many independent shops, bars and places to eat a short stroll away. Best of all, the resort’s large ski station is just round the corner.
Inside, you have an inviting lounge area – with its warm tones and log store-styled bar – the hotel’s restaurant, fitness room and wellness area. There’s certainly some quirks too, from the aircraft propeller and bull horn on the wall to the lounge chairs with riveted metal bodies. Not to forget the flotation tank of course – it costs a little extra to use, but it’s a must-try.
Rooms can take families of up to 6, with bunk beds for children, as well as some triple rooms if it’s just one, two or three of you heading Risoul’s way. Standard board here is bed & breakfast, and the buffet spread in the mornings has bacon and sausages on the menu as well as classic Continental options. And if you like to keep things simple and have your evening meals here too, go for the half-board upgrade and tuck into a mix of French and Italian faves each evening.

About Risoul
One of the southern French resorts, Risoul started up in 1977. It is linked to neighbouring Vars 1850 for a combined total of 174km of pistes, collectively called the Domaine de la Foret Blanche. Risoul is beginning to feature in more brochures, especially in Eastern Europe, because of its good value, great sunshine and surprisingly late season. For such a southern resort, it has a remarkably good snow record, also offering tree-line skiing and good boarding at the Surfland Park. The skiing is convenient, but much more for the beginner and intermediate market, with fairly limited off-piste challenges for the more advanced skier. The lift system will need upgrading from draglifts to chairlifts and gondolas, while the nearest airports are all over three hours away. When compared to the considerable amount of skiing offered, the selection of restaurants is rather limited.
Overall, Risoul 1850 is a great venue for first or second-time skiers working on a lower budget. It offers many of the advantages of a French purpose-built resort.
