Smugglers' Notch
Overview
This friendly, quirkily named resort, is a self-styled haven for children and families. The children's programme – for all ages, both on and off the slopes – is extraordinarily diverse. Smugglers, or Smugs – is so-called because it was used as a smugglers' route to bring in contraband from Canada during the American War of Independence. It is linked (when there is enough snow) with its famous neighbour, Stowe. Smugglers has 60 runs on three mountain faces and a vertical drop of 2,610ft. Although once depicted as something of a soft touch, the area has added some tough terrain, including 'The Black Hole', which it describes as the only 'triple black diamond' run in the East.
