Fiesch
Overview
A tiny resort which takes skiers into the huge and scenic Aletsch area, Fiesch's real claim to fame is its glacier, a 'ski-sauvage' area for which a mountain guide is essential and which cannot be reached by lift from its own slopes. The runs which pass through the glacier are the preserve of touring and helicopter skiers who have either skinned up or flown to departure points high above the Aletsch Glacier – Europe's longest – usually from Wengen or Grindelwald. From the top, skiers and boarders can enjoy exhilarating 7,000ft vertical descents through powder and corn snow to the village of Fiesch.
