Making curves   Follow the tracks   Bouncing in powder

Here's an exercise/activity to have a go at without poles that can really help you momve from one turn to the next more freely and make you aware of your inside leg.

Most people try to rush their top ski below them as soon as possible when they go to initiate a turn, try thinking of allowing your lower leg to soften when you are ready to move from one set of edges to the other, then actively turn it.

Stage 1
No poles to start with physically take the same hand down to the same leg, place your hand to the inside of your thigh (not knee) and when you want to change edges , use your hand to help open the thighs and turn the what was the downhill leg into the new turn.

Stage 2
Again, do not rush the movement or be aggressive but just use the hand to make sure your leg/foot is actually turning and changing edges.

Stage 3
Remember the new outer ski starts to steer your turn in the direction you want to go, don't forget this leg but still be aware of your inside leg.

Stage 4
Keep steering and directing/pushing on the outer foot/edge of the ski to direct the curve you are on until...

Stage 5
...Until you want to change direction again, then start to take the other hand down to the present outer leg...

Stage 6
Release the edge, soften the leg and use the hand once again on the inside of the downhill leg (thigh) to help you change edges and turn you into the new arc/curve.

Stage 7
Use your hands to make sure your leg is really making the movement... Actually, by physically using your hand to pull the thigh open you really becone aware of what this leg is doing.

Stage 8
A great activity to make sure you have both legs working with you, feel free to use skiers' pathways like railway tracks!
